Hi,

You mean childcare or kindergarten?

For childcare (Long Day Care), it depends on each individual centre. Some popular childcare got full house for the whole year, it may take you a year or so in the waiting list. If you could find some new childcare centres, you may be able to get in immediately. You may try several centres because it really depends on each centre's condition.

Childcare fee can be subject to 50% tax rebate, if the family has 1 working parent and 1 either working or studying parent. If either one parent is Full Time mom, no 50% tax rebate. There may be childcare allowance for eligible families, but it's income test required.

Thanks for your quick reply. I will go to Melbourne in July with husband only for one month, and I will use this one month to search the childcare for my son and then decide the house location.

Can you kindly advise how should I start to search Childcare in Melbourne?? I don't know which one is good or with good condition. My son is 2 years now, he will move to Melbourne with me after I born my second baby in Sept. I hope I can apply the childcare for him first when I am in Melbourne, then he can go to Childcare after arrived. Be honest, I have my own business, but it is trading company and I can work at home with internet. I don't think I can take care 2 kids, housework and my business altogether. So, I think my husband cannot get the 50% rebate from tax.

Sorry for more questions.

Hi Ling,

To find childcare centres, you may try this website http://www.careforkids.com.au/ .

To submit application, you need to fill in an address and contact phone no.(s) etc; so that the centre can contact you once they've got a place for your kid.

The quality of centres would be mostly known by word of mouths. You can visit the centres to make your choice.

About 50% rebate, online business is also been classified as a job. You can tell Centerlink about your online business work, and getting 50% childcare rebate.

There are quite a long listing for good childcare. I would say most Eastern suburb have better support and facilties for kids. Not very good on western side of the town but of course house price is in proportion to it.

Do you think 1 month from arrival date is enough to find a apartment to rent ? We want to rent a place as soon as possible.

besides, we contacted some shipping company and plan to choose one of them. However, they said they don't have shipment to MEL now, maybe need to ship to Sydney first, then transfer to MEL.

Should I keep going on this shipment company or find another one?

I am thinking to move back to Melbourne. My kid will be in G7 this year. She's born in HK and have Aussie citizenship. Is she entitled to free government schooling? Where can I find the information?

We are moving to Melbourne in July 2. Of course your kids are entitled to free schooling in public schools and local fees in independent schools (just a small fraction less!). Feel free to PM me for future connection in Melbourne. I now know quite a few families and will be great to meet up in Melbourne. : )

Hi Chole: Of course your kid is entitled to free government school. For some of the government schools, you need to live in their school zone. You have to check with your target school.
