Due to air pollution and worse living environment in HK, my wife and I are considering to move to Canada/Aus (but we have no friends or families in both these places). Could someone be kind enough to help on the following?

0. We landed in Quebec in 2004 and since then we have not returned. Likely we've lost our residence. By what reason or channel can we re-apply to "re-start and re-count" our residence? Does anyone have similar experience?

Since Quebec is too cold, is Vancouver fine in living condition, weather and job opportunity?

1. If living in Canada (but dun know where), how is job opportunity for teaching Putonghua there and for working as credit analyst/university there?

- Difficult for my wife (putonghua-teaching) to gain a teaching qualification there?

I fear that only one of us can find job there, and the other one needs to stay at home. Plus rental fees, that will burn up a lot of cash.

2. However, since we have two small boys, some one told me that the cost for one nany will eat up half of our monthly salary. How are Chinese immigrants taking care of kids whilst working? (hopefully can find job)

3. We are still comparing Australia vs Canada, in terms of
-education for small kids (pre primary and primary level)?
-People & culture (eg racism)
-job opportunity
- etc.

4. Both my wife and I hold master degree in HK, With two small kids and currently working in the education field in HK, will we be considered as "low skill" immigrant in Australia, and need to wait long for approval?

Can anyone kindly share experience on the above?

Tons of thanks!

as long as you are a degree holder and graduated from a teacher college(I assumed you obtained both qualifications in HK), it won't be a problem for you to get a teacher license in Ontario. Once you become a registered teacher, you can apply to the public school boards for putonghua teaching positions, which most likely are credit courses(once a week) or summer courses. the worst case is that you can do private tutoring. I know that putonghua teachers are quite sought-after, so i guess it shouldn't be too hard to find a job.

cost for one nany - depends on what kind of nanny u r looking for? inhouse? our hourly rate? u could get a chinese nanny for $10/hr or a flat rate of $500/week for 5 days - 8 hrs/day. yes. it will eat up half of the monthly income if (and only if) u r on a minimum pay.
most of my friend send their kids to the day care - where they could claim back some allowance from gov't.

Many thanks for all your information.

Given the crazy property price and pollution in HK, we are seriously to move... but having yet been in Ontario (snowy? cold), nor to Toronto or Vancouver ..... without relatives and friends also....

That is a tough call to make....

Thanks anyway, I will continue to gather information (or maybe I am waiting for a big "kick" that make me determined to leave HK) before making a decision.

Cheers

For your immigration status, you will have lost your PR by not meeting the residency requirements, and need to apply all over again.
