U mean 請假 for holiday?
Reception class is a part of the primary school already, as the government does not 'encourage' parents take children off from school on holiday which means the school usually won't encourage you to do so.

But of course it doesn't mean u can't. U still can apply for a holiday during term time for your child. But I think u need to fill in a form and hand it to the school. It depends on the school to approve the holiday or not.

I can tell u even my son is now at nursery (part of a primary school), he was off sick for 11 days last term (he was really sick). We also received a warning letter from school. But of course, it depends on different school. every school has different policy.

yes, hoping to go to hk end of sept/oct, may be for 1 week or so.
i really don't want to give the school a bad impression as it is just the start of the term. really headache.

In my kids' school the target attendance for each pupil is 96% in an academic year. The headteacher said 96% = 7 days absence from school in a year.

And these 7 days includes any kind of absence like off sick, doctor appointments, dentist or holiday (if approve).

It also depends on the school's homework policy. I know some school even in upper grade, they don't have much homework or test.

Some school will start have a little bit homework from reception like writing alphabet, practice letter sound. Usually they will give u a homework pack, if not everyday, at least every week.

At the end of the foundation stage (at the end of reception year), the children has to reach certain target in the curriculum set. Usually they learn through play at school (so is it playing?) But still they will have to do writing and counting (addition/subtraction up to 20) at school for year R and they will have to start learning key words (not just alphabets and letter sounds), normally once the child can recognise the words, the teacher will start to ask the child to do spelling. That's what they expect a reception child can do but of course it all depends on the child's ability.

Maybe u can go during summer holiday or x'mas holiday if you can.

School always think it is important for a child to settle in school in the beginning of the term. So it depends on the school what they think la.

I don't like to take kids off from school on holiday because I don't want to interrupt their learning and I also don't want to give an impression to kids that school is not important, we can go holiday. I think that's also the reason why the government is now trying not to encourage parents to take kids off from school on holiday. Yes it is not as flexible once your kid start school, but as a parent, no choice, u also want the best to your kid, right?!

Yes, they will give every kid 2 wks school off, but you must fill the form, why you want to take achool off, how long and need to wait for the headmaster, does she/he agree or not.....yes, when my twins were in yr 1, we took 2 wks off, and I filled the form.......so every kid only can take 2 wks school off in a year.....Reception class isn't only play, I am not sure do they have homework or not, cos every year classes have difference level kids......

Your school maybe different, maybe have 10 days lei? So if you take all 10 days, what if your kids are sick? does these 10 days include those off sick, too?!

What about x'mas??? u can't get days off during x'mas?
Usually school will have 2 weeks x'mas holiday.

Or if one week is enough, u can go during half term. I think there is a half term in late October.

i haven't received any info from the school yet. may be it will give more idea.

trouble is we want to go in the middle of the term, i think it will be really difficult to take time off.

there is a wedding in HKG they want to attend. may be will just send mother in law back la ..

They took school off in their old school, when they were 5 to 6 yrs old, they took some days off from sick, and some hours off for dentist/doctor appointments, and they took 2 wks school only at 9/2006......in this school, I also got a letter, it notice to the parents, don't take school off to holiday...

Usually it is the last week in October. Have the school invited you for a visit yet? They usually will give a visit to new reception children so to give some information to the parents about the school. During the visit you can ask the teacher or the school office when is the half term in Autumn term lor. Or what u can do is - very simple, just e-mail or phone the school office to ask when is the half term in Autumn term - saying u r planning for a holiday......
