i saw my male colleague wear such to work, but what i thought is to protect their leather shoes...
depends of what type of snow boot you have. some snow boot, have flat botton surface then will be slippery, but if you choose those boot with deep "hung" (like the mountain hiking boot). that might have more fraction with the snow ground.
however, if you are talking about black ice/icy ground. nothing would really help..
