most maids just take it for granted and will not appreciate your gifts. my old maid flew back to Indo after working for me for 1 mth as her father passed away. we gave her $1500 as gift, my old clothes+ body lotion for her daughter.
I gave her $200 lai see on Christmas (she worked for me for 4 mths at that time) and another $200 for CNY. she treated me very badly and always 'har' me. after I fired her, my bro's maid told me that actually she was looking for a new job. To be frank, I treated her quite good, never ever scolded her, and let her did whatever she wanted to (like clean floor only once per 3 days, clean car once in 2 weeks, slept at 9pm and woke up at 9am, on Sun left at 7am and came back at 10.30-11pm, but I didn't say a word).
if the maid works for you for a longer time (over 2 years) and still performs good, then u can consider giving her gifts. suggest u not to give her anything la
I'll give her money and I think she'll like to have more money.
When my maid finished the first contract, I gave her $500.Coming October her 2nd contract will be finished, I prepare to give her around $1500. She'll get marry when she go home, she'll need more money.
