Hi All,

I've been so frustrated about my son's eczema. He's been having the eczema problem since he's a little baby. Now it's still bothering him.

Any recommendation for Chinese herbalist for young kids in the Silicon Valley?

Thanks tons!

The 中醫師 I have been visiting is pretty good. He fixed my hay fever and Matthew saw him for coughing few month ago. His office is in Oakland China Town, will that be too far away for you?

HappyMatt,

thx for your info.

yes, it's still a bit far for us but it might take a little lesser time for us going to Oakland than going to S.F. if the traffic is good.

have the herbalist seen a lot of young kids, especially for eczema problems?

there's an on-site herbalist at the Chinese pharmacy closed to where we live. my son had seen her for many times. couple times for flu/coughing and her medicines were very effective for treating coughing. however, didn't help much for his eczema problem ... maybe eczema is much harder to treat ...

Hi SY_Mom,

My 1.5 yr old son also has eczema. I took him to a 中醫師 in Mountain View once. The 中醫師 is supposed to be very good with skin problems.

He basically said babies have eczema because their bodies are reacting to something they are allergic to. It is a long battle and there is no over-night solution to it. We can only try to stop it from flaring up by 介口. And hopefully my son will out grow it by age 2. He gave us a bottle of Chinese herb body wash, some body cream and 4 bags of medicine. The cream and midicine is supposed to help my son when he has a flare up.

I have only given my son one bag of medicine so far only. Because it tastes pretty bad.

Around the same time I took my son to see an allergy specialist and we found out he is actaully allergic to egg whites. After we stopped giving him anything with eggs he seems to be a lot better. Althought he still has flare-ups sometimes but it is a lot better than before.

So I don't really know if the 中醫師 has helped. But if you are interested, I can look for his business card and send you his name (sorry I don't remember his name on top of my head...) He's pretty expensive though, we paid $70 plus for my son's visit.

baby-turtle,

if your son's eczema is due to allergy to certain food, it's easy to take care. you should take him for skin test to find out what kinds of food he's allergic to and just try to avoid them. however, my son's eczema is not related to food.
i can give u a referral for a pedi. allergy specialist for skin test at Stanford if u want.

just wondering if your herbalist is the same one that my son had seen recently, becoz she used to have a clinic in Mtn. View. so, is the doctor a female or male?

actually your herbalist is not expensive at all ....
my son'd seen a herbalist in S.F. couple years ago and we paid $160 for a week's medication. he saw another one in S.J. and we paid $110 for a week's medication, and she charged our insurance for giving accu-point message to him.

if your herbalist has a lot of pediatric patients, would u mind to pm me his contact info?

SY_Mom,

Do you have carpet at home? Would it be the pollens that cause Sean's eczema? We have carpet in the bedroom. My son, daughter and my hubby had very bad allergy in 1 or 2 month ago. They coughed non-stop. One day, the daycare owner called me saying that my son coughed non-stop and he refused to play, just sitting and leaning his head on the kids' sofa then coughed. I took him to the doctor's clinic and the doctor checked him and said that it's allergy. He even needed to give us a respiratory machine to let Spencer inhalt medicine to help him stop coughing. It turned out work for all kids and my hubby.

Then, I bought a air-purifier and a vaccum cleaner that would pick up dust well (normal standard grade of vaccum cleaner just pull the dust and dirt back to the carpet). I found that work, at least, I see more dust and dirt being picked up from the new cleaner and their cough improved after using the air-purifier.

My hubby and my son's doctor both said that the allergy in this year is bad. Since eczema relates to allergy in some sense, control to avoid source of allergy helps to stop eczema. My son still has bad eczema sometimes, especially when it's hot or the air condition is bad. But, we don't need to use medication all the time now.

Maybe you can see if having a different air-purifier or/and vaccum cleaner can help.

rose-mag,

thanks for your tips. you're absolutely right ...
also, have professional air dust cleaning really help too (esp. for coughing due to allergy).

yes, we do have carpets at home. as we've been thinking about moving, we would prefer to have hardwood floor in our new place. however, we still haven't made up our mind where to move yet.

anyway, my son's eczema is more triggered from trees and grass than from dust-mite (and sometimes from sweating). however, since he's a completely outdoor and sportive guy, it even made his allergy worse.

If you want to try the 中醫師 I used to see in a Oakland Chinatown. His "clinic" is inside a 藥材鋪 (He is the 藥材鋪 owner, and I heard he is the 3rd generation of 中醫師 in the family). I don't have the exact address, I only remember it is located on 9th Street, between Franklin St & Broadway (中山大廈地鋪). The name is 環球藥行.
