From my experience, the current foreign domestic helper policy is impractical, unfair and inflexible. Normally, we just read the files from the agency and offer employment, we can hardly verify if their educational background and working experience are true. No probation period. Now Filipinos do not have to pay placement fee, they can just treat our offer as a trip (if the job is uneasy).
My current maid gave inaccurate information about her working experience. She made many strange, repeated and deliberated mistakes (almost daily). She does not obey reasonable order and often ignore her responsbilities. I have asked her to acknowledge those warning letters. After she reported duty, she critized our living environment and standard, eg my flat is small (which I clearly marked in the employment contract and a separate sheet to remind her that my flat is small, pls bring foldable luggage, etc). She likes her life in the Philippines for she did not need to work, she relied on her sister's couple. However, I still need to keep her (luckily my youngest kid is now able to communicate with me), I am waiting for long holidays so that I can train up a new maid and let my children adapt to her. It is very pity for children to put in the hand of stranger but I have no choice.
Govt seems do nothing to protect us. Our problem on child caring, etc may be worse than those provety. I hope our government would set some policy to prevent foreign DHs to provide false information. Without strict government policy, agencies cannot assure the information provided by applicants is true.
winnie_sh, I have many warning letters which has been acknowledge receipt by my maid about her serious, repeated and deliberated mistakes. Do you think those letters are useful for you? I prepare to send a letter to government regarding the existing policy and our hard situation. I think my case is not the unique one.
